Hey everyone! I’m so excited because this is the first blog I have ever written!
Moving right along.
My name is Carlina. I’m a transfer student from Valencia, this semester makes a year at the University of Central Florida. Still so new to the campus that I still can’t walk around campus alone without getting lost. I am majoring in sports and exercise science with a minor in education, BUT may change that in the fall to Physical Education with a minor in Coaching. I must say, once I began coaching, I realize how much I love it. I was assistant coach for a middle school in volleyball, basketball and track. (I will NEVER coach basketball again) I previously left my job as a physical education paraprofessional of 5 years to be a full-time student, hoping to graduate Fall 2018.
I am originally from Bronx, New York, yes like French Montana*, and moved here to Orlando at the age of 9. (I’ve been here WAY too long.) I am beautifully multicultural, mixed with Puerto Rican and African-American. I was raised by a single, beautiful, proud Puerto Rican mother, who also raised 3 other girls while earning her bachelor’s and master’s degree. I must say she did a pretty good job, although I’m just as crazy as my dad. My mother has always been my inspiration. She’s like my best friend. Because of her, I was inspired to go into the profession of teaching and why I love school so much. I take my education seriously. When I first started Valencia, I was still thinking like an average high school student. “Oh, I don’t have to work so hard, I’ll still get good grades.” HA! That mentality is the reason I’m in school now. I quit going to school at the age of 19 and started working full-time. After 6 years, I can say I’m a college student, and after a year and a half of being back in school I haven’t received anything less than an A. Well… Last semester I earned a B; it broke my little heart! Many people seem to take a lifetime finding their purpose for living, my purpose is to teach children the importance of physical fitness, health and the most important thing, their education. I want my students to leave my class every day, saying they learned something new. If I can open one child’s mind, I have done my job. Sending a message doesn’t mean I must open every mind, it’s to open one mind and allow them to open other’s minds to the amazing things you can learn in a classroom. Seeing my students every day was the only reason I would wake up every morning to go to work.
I am really excited to see how this blogging comes along, maybe after the class ends I may keep it going! I love it! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the semester as well!
